9: Blog Critique

For my blog critique, I decided to look at Kinkey Shankles' blog and the paper on Predictions. The Future of Social Media: Revolutionary Changes and Predictions" offers an intriguing glimpse into the potential trajectory of social media in the coming years. By forecasting advancements in technology and their impact on digital communication, the author paints a picture of a future where social media becomes even more deeply intertwined with our daily lives. However, while the article presents an optimistic outlook on the evolution of social media, it fails to adequately address the ethical challenges and potential drawbacks associated with these developments.

One of the key predictions outlined in the article is the increased integration of social media into physical objects and spaces. The idea of refrigerators or cars sharing updates on social platforms may indeed seem like a novel concept, promising greater convenience and connectivity. However, the article overlooks the potential implications for personal privacy and data security. As everyday objects become connected to social media, the amount of personal data collected and shared increases exponentially, raising concerns about surveillance and exploitation.

The article emphasizes the role of artificial intelligence (AI) and virtual reality (VR) in reshaping social media experiences. While AI-driven personalization and VR-enabled immersive interactions hold promise for enhancing user engagement, they also raise ethical questions regarding data privacy and manipulation. The article briefly mentions privacy concerns but fails to investigate the potential risks associated with AI algorithms and data collection practices. Without robust safeguards in place, the integration of AI and VR into social media platforms could exacerbate existing issues such as algorithmic bias and filter bubbles.

The article touches on the responsibility of social media platforms to moderate content and address concerns related to mental health. While acknowledging these issues is commendable, the article fails to propose concrete solutions or strategies for mitigating their impact. As social media continues to play an increasingly influential role in shaping public discourse and mental well-being, platforms must adopt proactive measures to address misinformation, harmful content, and algorithmic amplification of divisive narratives.

The article's portrayal of social media as a potential force for positive change overlooks the darker side of its influence. While social media has undoubtedly facilitated connections and fostered communities, it has also been implicated in phenomena such as cyber bullying, misinformation campaigns, and social polarization. By framing social media solely as a tool for enrichment, the article fails to acknowledge the complex interplay between technology and societal dynamics, neglecting the need for critical engagement and responsible use.

While the article "PREDICTIONS: The Future of Social Media" offers thought-provoking insights into the potential evolution of digital communication, it lacks a comprehensive examination of the ethical challenges and societal implications associated with these changes. As we navigate the rapidly evolving landscape of social media, it is imperative to approach technological advancements with a critical lens, considering their potential benefits, ethical considerations, and pitfalls. Only through mindful engagement and proactive regulation can we ensure that social media remains a force for positive change in the years to come.

4: Advertising Analysis

Advertising is a universal force in contemporary society, molding our perceptions, guiding our decisions, and saturating our daily experiences. As consumers, we encounter a relentless barrage of ads across various platforms, TV, radio, social media, and billboards. I will explore the complexities of advertising analysis, shedding light on the art and science behind crafting persuasive messages that grab our attention and influence consumer behavior. At its core, advertising is an artistic expression designed to emotionally engage and connect with its audience. Successful ads often tap into human emotions, creating memorable experiences that linger in our minds. Depending on the product or service being promoted, this emotional connection varies, using humor, nostalgia, empathy, or aspiration. For instance, the enduring Coca-Cola Christmas campaigns evoke feelings of warmth and togetherness, associating the brand with positive emotions during the festive season. Visual elements are pivo

1: Personal Video Habits

While I try to limit my screen time each day, I am often in front of a screen more than I would like. I start my morning by making my coffee, sitting down, and watching TV for about an hour before I start getting ready for the day. I don't have class until 11 every day but I try each morning to be out of bed between 9:00 - 9:30, I enjoy my slow mornings and feel like waking up earlier than needed gives me time to get mentally prepared for the day. After I make my coffee I will sit on the couch and turn the TV on, click Hulu, and watch One Tree Hill , I have seen this show all the way through multiple times, but it's an easy show to watch because I don't have to pay attention. I scroll on all my social media while the TV is playing in the background to feel caught up on everything that happened while I was asleep. Once I am ready for the day and in class, I will open my computer and check what I have due for the week, once I am caught up on my work for the week I will open u
